The Isthmus Vocal Ensemble (IVE) seeks a permanent Artistic Director beginning in the summer of 2018. Applications accepted until May 5th, 2017.
Established in 2002 by Founding Artistic Director Scott MacPherson, IVE is a high level choral ensemble of roughly 60 voices, made up of some of the finest singers in the Madison and Southern Wisconsin areas. Madison’s “temporary” choir, IVE convenes annually for about 16 intensive days in late July and early August to rehearse a program of varied “concert choir” repertoire spanning from Renaissance motets to works by living composers written especially for IVE and everything in between. The group presents two performances on the first weekend of August before going dormant for another year. IVE highlights include their feature performance at the North Central Division ACDA Conference in 2012, a commercial CD The Choral Music of Andrew Rindfleisch released on the Clarion label in 2006, and a live CD Isthmus Christmas released in 2011. To celebrate 15 years of choral excellence, IVE raised the funds to hire an orchestra to perform Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem and the world premiere of Andrew Rindfleisch’s Song of Jubilation in August 2016. The Isthmus Vocal Ensemble recognizes the value of a diversity of people, thoughts, perspectives, and experiences, and is actively committed to promoting a culture of inclusiveness. The Artistic Director is responsible for providing musical leadership to the group. Details of essential duties include: programming, setting rehearsal/performance schedule in conjunction with the IVE Board, setting the roster of singers and auditioning new singers as needed, and coordinating other tasks with a supportive, dedicated working board.
Candidates must have a track record of choral excellence. Our conductor must have artistic passion, a sense of humor, and be able to teach, challenge, and inspire us. IVE seeks a person who inspires a convivial but hardworking atmosphere during our short, intense time together. An organizationally strong leader with an enthusiasm for diverse and challenging repertoire and a vision for the future are also paramount to the success of this ensemble.
Compensation for the seasonal part-time Artistic Director position is competitive, commensurate with experience and may include a travel stipend.
Review of applications will begin March 1, 2017 and we'll stop accepting them on May 5th, 2017. Auditions are scheduled for June 9, 10, & 11, 2017. Applicants should send a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, list of 3-5 current references to ADapplicant@isthmusvocalensemble.org.
Additionally, please include links to a recent choral rehearsal (up to 30 minutes) and 20-30 minutes of performance video or audio. Please note: only electronic submissions will be considered.
